Question on restoring shine
My treadle I found last week is in great shape , sews well but it looks a little dull. Can I polish with sewing machine oil and a super soft cloth? Or something else I know you great people will know!

Hello Txsuthrn,
Yes, that is the best method, with either a soft cotton cloth or a ball of cotton wool. When you give the machine a wipe with a clean cloth afterwards the shine will come up. For the metal and chrome parts you can use a metal polish. I use Peek metal polish, which comes in a tube, obtainable online from http://www.tri-peek.com but you might prefer another metal polish. Just make sure you don't let the metal polish get anywhere near the decals. |
Thank you!

I use Flitz metal polish on the shiny bits. I like it for two reasons, one is it works great, and two is that it is safe to use around humans. (I learned about it decades ago when I was the assistant manager of a Marie Callenders restaurant. We used it for polishing the brass and copper of the salad bar.
Since my hands end up all over the machine I don;t like to use harsh chems. |
