I don't know how to get this post under "Vintage Machines". Billy, I have read where you use "Gold" on delicate decals. The finish is wore off parts of my decals on my treadle (avatar) and I am looking for some type of sealer to put on for protection. What exactly is this "Gold stuff". Your tutorials are very good.l

That is a beautiful machine. Wow! The decals are in really nice shape!!
Billy refers to "Liquid Gold". I just use sewing machine oil for cleaning the machine...inside and out. I just slather it on, let it sit for awhile and then I wipe it off. Then I give it a couple coats of Turtle Wax. For all of the chrome and metal parts (even the brass medallion) I use "No. 7 Chrome & Metal Polish" that I bought at Walmart in the auto section. |

I just got a 91 similar to yours but not a Treadle. The decals are also in good shape. I used Scott's Liquid Gold and it sparkles :) But I don't know if there is a way to seal the decals.
I'm afraid of ruining them!!! We'll see what he has to say :) |

Liquid Gold is a furniture polish that helps protect the finish, hides the crazing (the little cracks in the finish), and gives it a shine like you would not believe!
You can shoot an automotive clear coat on the existing finish but that is a very tricky thing to do and I would not let just anyone try it. That is a really nice machine and I do love the decals on it. Billy |
