Just got this @garage sale this morn for $20. Cabnit is sad looking but I have lighly sanded and will give it a new shine and buff. The machine is really DIRTY but will tackle that soon. Any have any info or copy of manual for this?? Cool looking , looks like it needs cams but none came with. Found a PDF of a manual for a Sewmor 606 which has some sinialar things on them. Any help would be appreciated! :) :)

That's a neat machine. I like the ones with all the knobs and levers. I wish I had a source for a manual but I don't. I'm not sure that one uses cams. I don't see a trap door or any thing that looks like cams would attach. I'm fairly certain that one uses the built in stitches. With the stitch width / length / and the stitch combo you'll be able to do a tremendous variety of stitches with it. Joe |
There is a little covered opening at the back which says cams 1 of 7. Both spool pins are folding. I was just watching part 1 of cleaning old machines :) It was saying don't use metal polish on the japanned parts so what just soap and water? I like the color and don't want to mess with ruining it.

OK, I couldn't see the trap door from your pics.
On colored machines like that I use either: sewing machine oil with a soft cloth or cotton balls, or baby oil with soft cloths or cotton balls. I've also used Goop non pumice hand cleaner. Soft cloth and rub gently. I also use a variety of tooth brushes to get into cracks, crevices and corners. I don't use soap and water because water equals rust in my opinion. Joe |
How cute is that?!! Love it! Did you google for a manual? Unfortunately, most sites have them for sale. :< Don't use water. You can use sewing machine oil and I use Armoral for stubburn grime.

Here are pictures of my Sewmor 606. I also have not been able to find a manual. Based on her shape I think she is a Necchi clone with a few other machine styles thrown in. She sews beautifully and when I find a cabinet to fit her in I will try FMQ as her feed dogs can drop via a nob on the bed. The cabinet she is sitting in is a Sears cabinet. She is only in the cabinet while I was cleaning and testing her.

I wonder if the Sewmor 606 did one of those things like the Singer 201. Started out as a heavy old style black machine then changed to a lighter squared off aluminum design with the same number.
Just a thought, and I agree about the Necchi influence. Joe |
Your finish isn't 'japanned'. It's baked on enamel and very tough. I scrubbed one with a toothbrush and Dawn dishwashing detergent, making sure none went into the machine and rinsing and drying well very quickly. If it's been around a smoker, it takes some cleaning. I don't know about the rust - I've never had any except on one bobbin and I'm going to throw that away.
Caroline and Joe, my Admiral machine that looks enough like my Necchi to be its brother was made by Brother in Japan. Just to confuse things even further on these Japanese made machines. |
