singer 319w

I just got done cleaning and tuning up a singer 319w. It is beautiful and sews like it was new. The only problem is the spring for the bobbin winder is broke. I believe singer part number is 66601, bobbin winder spring. I looked on eBay and contacted Sew Classics (they said they don't have one). Does anyone know where to get one or one that is compatible? I can wind bobbin if I hold down the lever manually.

You'd think there would be a source for new springs but I didn't notice anything for part # 66601. I've purchased quite a few similar for the Singer potted motors. I believe 188k and 306 use the same spring so you might find a good deal on a used bobbin winder--though this is not an ideal solution. Perhaps someone with a better parts source knows where one is available or check with the old time sew-n-vac or traveling repair man. Good Luck.

Do you have another Singer that you can just walk across the room and re-wind your bobbin. Maybe not, since FW bobbins are so particular to FW and 301. Like someone above suggested, a Sidewinder--but look for a used one, they are a little pricey for what they do. Or, at least, just continue to hold the bobbin winder down while you fill a bobbin. I have to do that on one of my FWs.
