My husband has this machine he has used in leatherworking in the past. He wants to sell it. I found on the internet that it was made to use on gabardines, cottons and polyesters, not leather. He used it for that but I don't know how well it worked or how smoothly. Do I need to keep it for quilting? Has anyone used one of these. Also, what year was it made.
I just watched a utube video on one and it looks like an industrial machine to me. I am going to watch this thread to see if it could be used for quilting. ????? It looked like it went pretty fast and it was sewing through 2 layers of belt leather.
I watched a few videos, too. My dh said it wasn't good on thick leather. He used it on thin leather. It is an upholstery machine. Just wondering when it was made. I thought maybe someone used one for sewing or quilting and would know if it was ok. I need to get it out and use it to see, I guess. I want to get the easy quilter and need a machine to use with it.
As long as it's a lockstitch machine, it would probably be fine for quilting.
I removed the feed dogs on my industrial 31, replaced the needle plate with a darning plate and the foot with a Juki darning foot.
You can convert the machine to use a small household machine's motor if the giant motor is intimidating or too fast. I had planned to put a small motor on mine because I can't treadle and quilt at the same time. :) (like patting your head and rubbing your stomach - I'm not very coordinated! ;)
Okay I have one of these and its the bomb!!! I am looking for an industrial treadle so I can use it in the studio but it is meant for clothing.
The thing that gets me is just because it is industrial doesnt mean it can sew threw heavy leather and steel plate. The idea behind the industrial machines are "Time is money" and they were purpose built machines. I have a model 24 industrial that came out of a hat factory and it was used to sew hat bands. But the machine is so small I can put it in my pocket if the bed plate was off of it.
But go here and look at this parts list/manual I found for you.......
