Singer 9W-7 Needle modifications
In another thread(s) the use of the MY 1014B needles as a substitute for the 127x1s in the Singers 9W and 9W7s as well as the WW 9s and others has been documented.
I have two 9W-7s so this subject is on my mind. As of late I've had a lot of trouble finding a ready source for the MY 1014B needles. I don't do eBay so I've been looking for some in a legitimate on line store. So far not much luck. My first 9W-7 came to me with a 15x1 needle in the needle shaft. This was OK by me as I had no 127x1 needles. My second 9W-7 has a Simanco 127x1 100-16 needle in it that surprisingly is still good. So of course I had to do some comparison to figure out how they altered the first machine to use the 15x1 needles. Some time back I noticed that the tiny screw in the #1 machine that locates the flat on the needle was no longer functional. The screw head is still in the hole, but the part that projects into the needle hole is gone. Last night I compared the two machines and here is what I found. A 15x1 will not fit in machine #2's needle hole. It is too large in the shank. A 127x1 will still fit in the needle hole on machine #1. What they did was to open up the hole in the needle bar of the #1 machine just deep enough so the larger 15x1 would slip up into the hole to the correct length. By doing it that way you could still use the original 127x1 needles if you wanted to. So in my #1 9W-7 I can use: 127x1, MY 1014B, and 15x1 needles. In my #2 9W-7 I can use: 127x1 and MY 1014B needles. Hope this is of interest to someone. Joe |
That makes know sense to me at all. Interesting to read, you bet. Somewhere down the line I will have this problem and I will remember J's post. That doesn't mean I will be able to find it but I will know that J posted it. Getting old sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caroline,
Considering the number of WW9s and 9W-7s on this forum I really thought more people would be interested. Joe |

Well, I got one package from Cyndy Kitt in Australia; http://annebonnyslocker.com.au/ckp/media/hl-2011-2.htm
And I've gotten a few of the MY 1014B's from another forum member who had bought them for a machine that didn't need them I think. Not sure I remember the it of it correctly. Other than that I haven't picked up any more at all. There are some sources on the internet, but not as many as you'd think. Here's one: http://www.ctsusa.com/_e/Durkopp_Adl...014/MY1014.htm Joe |
