Singer Model 99...needs key

Sat. I traveled about 150 miles one way to go to an estated sales advertized on Craig's list. When I got there in the afternoon the pretty little 99 was still there and only had a price tag of $100.00. Was in beautiful condition, hand crank turned easily and bentwood lid was in great shape too. Owner gave me $20.00 off. So I was jumping up and down. Manual came with it too. But he told me there is no key to the lid. The little baby is now mine!
Does anyone know where I can buy a key? Also I don't know too much about antique machines, I would like to find out how to tell what model of 99 she is; was made in1932. I know about the site to find out what model it is and used it to find out it's a 99 but there seems to be several types of 99's and that's what I want to learn.
Oh I'm so excited. Thanks in advance for your help.
Proud Mama of 2 antiques.

A good substitute for a real key is a small screwdriver. I've seen keys on eBay but can't say where. I usually just make my own.

Some of the shaped screw driver tips work perfectly. You will have to experiment to find the right tip.

I have a 99 and since I did not have a key, I also used a small flat head screwdriver. Then I found a key in my jewelry box that was originally for either a small suitcase or a diary. (Yikes, do they still make those little lockable diaries that all the girls had way back in the 50's or 60's?) It worked just fine. I do also see them advertised on ebay but often they are pricey depending on how much you want one. If you go that route, just make sure it is the flat headed key as there are others that are box shaped and triangular. Try the flat screwdriver and if that works you just need the flat key. Glad that you got that machine. Have fun with it.

Shine a light in the hole and see if you have a square or triangular "keyway". The small flat blade screwdriver usually works for either, but it is good to know which it is when you decide to make/order one.

I am to have a 99 k coming to me within a few weeks. It is in bentwood case new condition. I've had to be patient due to the circumstances. I will mark your info in my little book so I can get a copy key if you are still interested.
I also have many of those little luggage keys so can check if one would work for you. Will be happy to help you.
Keep telling myself this will be my last vintage machine except I also keep looking for a very good condition 201 if I can find room to put it here. Enjoy your 99 . Could have used a handcrank today when power was out.

Thanks for your kind offer. Will check the keyhole for pattern. Have to go out and buy flashlight first. Cat knock oveer the last working one and broke it. Oh well, needed to buy one-now need to buy two. Will get back to you, Mornigstar.
