Please tell me what all of you know about this machine. How much does it weigh? What is the difference in a FW? Anything. Thanks in advance. Oh and how much $ is a good price for one.

Waiting for all the great answers!

If you google it you'll find out more info. Much heavier than a FW, but cute. I have the green 185K which is very similar in size and weight. I paid $25. You can find them in the $10-$40 range, though some crazy people will be asking $150 or more on Craigs List, that you can be sure of!

The Spartan is a good little (but not light) straight stitch machine. It would make a good starter machine or a machine for someone who just wants to stitch occassionally. There are no fancy bells or whistles (not even zig-zag). The Spartan was sold as a hard working affordable Singer. It was not their Cadillac model. In Southern Ontario you can pick up a Spartan in good condition for less than $100.

The Spartan is a plain little machine but easy to maintain as there isn't much to go wrong with these machines. Most of them that I've seen are portables but you can get cabinets to fit them.

Great little machine--easy to use, easy to maintain, but is heavy, especially compared to Featherweight. "No frills" work horse, reliable. I paid $45 for mine.

I love mine. I think I paid $20 with the cabinet. They only came with the straight stitch foot-no extra attachments and no light. I added a light. They are heavy though, cast iron! Great straight stitch.

It is the machine I use for all my piecing, sews a nice tight straight stitch and easy to use and maintain. Around $50 or less is a good buy, and it will serve you for a lifetime. Same machine as a Singer 99 and there are lots of attachments that it can take also. For a manual, look for the Singer 99 one.
