Spartan?
Can anyone tell me some more about the Spartan? Saw one and thought it was a cute little plain Jane.

They are great little machines. Kind of like the singer 99. I would definitely get it if the condition of the machine and the price is right.

A Spartan is exactly a 99 at least in the hardware department, they were a "economy" version. No light no bling decals and no case (weird little plastic "cover" on the bottom, because it has to have to within a flat surface) out side of that it is a 99 which is itself a 3/4 size 66. Drop in bobbin and cute as a button.

I put a finger guard on the one I gave to my DGD. She loves the little machine. I knew it worked because I used it to piece a quilt for DGS. I think it is easier to operate that one with a bobbin case.

Does having the finger guard on the machine make it hard to see where you're sewing? Can you tell I have no idea what a finger guard is? Sharon W. |
Isn't the finger guard a wire "stand off" bumper type gadget? I have seen only one and that was a long time ago. I thought it was a good idea, since, as a child, I actually did sew one of my fingers. Anybody else out ther ever done that?

I've got a Spartan and love it. It sews very nicely. When the high dollar fancy machines are down, my little Spartan is always ready to go. It may not have all the fancy stitches, but it is a great machine.

Yeah I vaccinated myself as a small child. I could sew before I could read or write my name. I had an old hand crank sewing machine. I think the wire thing (finger guard) is a wonderful idea but not fool proof.

I put the needle right through my fingernail. Mom & grandma were sitting on the side porch right outside and had to come rushing in to turn the wheel and get the needle out. Ouchie!
