Treadle Cabinets

I think I've found a Singer 66 Red Eye head only. It does work with a crank, but will not be sold with a crank and the box it sits in is also not available. So I need to put this in something. Are the openings in the treadle cabinets pretty much standard? Like if a cabinet with a Minnesotan or some other brand than Singer, would that opening work for the 66?

TIA

Sorry, but no. There may be others that will work with a Singer but not in the general case. No idea where you are but if you near southern Wisconsin I've got a base or two to get rid of.

Went and looked at this page and it is a goldmind of information, even had instructions on how to make cabinets. Maybe that will help, also info on cleaning up and making old cabinets look good without refinishing. Only wish I had more room for vintage machines, I am now hooked.

Carol,

Thank you for that link! Looks like I can have the hubby build a box but still need a crank. At least I can use it till I get the cabinet part figured out. I'm printing the info and bookmarking.

I found a hand crank here - http://www.sewingmachineparts.net/handcranks.html

Does anyone know the quality of this? Not too expensive but think maybe I should order one.
