My DH surprised me Friday with a Singer hand crank machine...and then today we went to KS to pick up a treadle I bought from a another QB member!

Now I have questions...like what sort of needles do they use???
is it hard to find feet for them..not that I will probably use them for any fancy work, but you never know in this economy, we might try conserving even more elec....hehehe

I am not sure, but I believe them both to be pretty close to the same machine..possibly a 27 or 28!
Someone sent me a link to a manual for these models and inside the manual it says to use only Singer needles in the green package..yikes..really...where do I find those in todays market???

Any help/info would be great....I hope Billy sees this!

Your treadle machine is very much like the treadle I learned to sew on. Except our bobbin winder was near the bottom of the post, didn't have a rubber wheel, and it ran against the belt. We used standard size needles. I think some of the older machines used a shorter needle.

I think the 28 came with a hand crank. All the 27s I have seen have been treadles.

The decals were so pretty on those old machines!

If you really want to get a response from Billy, I think you need to send a PM to him.

The 27 is a full sized machine, the 28 is a 3/4. Your handcrank is a 28. Not all 28s were handcranks tho.

To tell the difference between a 27/28 and 127/128 check the shuttle. Is there a little button that you press to lift the shuttle out? If not, it's a 27/28, if so, 127/128.

:) Pretty new babies!! They take a standard 15x1 needle, you don't have to buy Singer needles...any brand will work.
