This was my moms sewing machine and I have had it out in the garage. I called Brother and they could not give me any info on it, hoping someone on here can help. It is a Brother International Corportation Deluxe Zigzag, Model #1221, Serial #11T8 or 1118, can't really read it. Said made in Taiwan. Brother did say it was probably about 40 years old.

Looks good. I'd love to have a machine like that:) Enjoy her:)

It looks older than 40 yrs, I have one that is at least that old and has several variations of stitches and lengths and widths dials.

Try posting your question in the Vintage Sewing Machine shop on this board, bet someone there can help you.

not sure how to find that?

I would guess from other photos on the internet found through Google that this machine is from the mid-1950s. It should probably be a strong machine, and will last you for a long time if taken care of. Keep it oiled, and have it adjusted once in a while.
How nice to have your mom's machine!! |
It sure looks like your Mom took good care of it. Aren't you lucky.

Actually looking at the logo and the companies time line I would put this on in the 1970's somewhere. I am still just getting into the Japanese machine research (only 3 years into it) and there is not a lot of information about the machines out there. I probably know more about them than anyone else on the planet but trying to get all of my factory documents deciphered is taking a while. (all in Japanese)
But I can tell you that it will use the standard 15x1 needles and the Class 15 bobbins all of which are found very easily. I know that Brothers are a sturdy machine and you can not kill them. I have worked on several of the very early ones and I really loved them. In fact I am looking for a "Windomatic" because that machine set the benchmark for every machine that was made anywhere in the world ever since. Very hard to find and very nice!!! Billy |
I love how it says deluxe zig zag. Is that all that it does :?: Alot of zig zag written on this machine

Oh I don't know haven't tried it out yet. I will let you know if that is all it does,
