this is so neat because yesterday i adopted my first featherweight 221-1!!! which i bought on Ebay 8-) she came with several hem attachments, lots and lots of oil in the original boxes and tins, the instruction book, button holer, all kinds of goodies. i hadn't thought about naming "her" but now i'll put some thought to it. she was apparently born in 1948 in Scotland according to the serial number. i can't wait to get sewing, but she's a little dirty and she needs a new belt before she shows me her stuff, so off to the shop she goes. what a nice surprise to open my computer to this today after meeting my new friend today!!

Damaquilts, are the machine and treadle irons well oiled? Thats a sweet little machine, I'd be proud to own it! :) Is the treadle hard/impossible to move when it "freezes"? I'm thinking it almost has to be a problem with either the belt or the pitman arm...and most likely the belt since you don't seem to have a problem until you put it on... to echo what's often heard and what I've said many times...BILLY will know!! ~grin~
Linda, can't wait to see your photos!! I've heard of a Jones, but not a Collier! I've been keeping my eyes open for a handcrank to take in the camper with us this summer, but haven't found one yet that suits me... ifw045...work on your machine and let SIL take care of the house!! ;) :lol: |

I have a Model 66 that I bought for $50.00 and I just bought another one ($100.00) but don't know which model it is. It came with all the attachments and is in excellent condition but no book. Do you know where I can find out what machine I have and if there are instruction manuals out there.

I think it must be the belt. I just don't know what to do about it. Everything is oiled well. I use Triflow so no build up of brown junk.
I want a treadle but I hate to see this one sit here. I would rather see someone get it who can figure it out. Do you think 100 is too much to ask for it? |

I am tickled to see everyone here and I was talking to the admin and it was brought up that we could make this a "Virtual Forum" I am still kinda confused as to how it all works but I will be in control over the content and the post. But I am kinda like you guys this does deserve a sticky but like it was stated a bit earlier it is going to stay at the top anyway because of the interest by all of you. what I have is a Singer/New Family Model 12 dated 1876. I did get that off the Singer dating site. The pedal freezes up on me after it moves back and forth a few times. The machine moves fine and the pedal moves fine until I put the belt on. The the pedal will move back and forth maybe 3 times and freeze. I am sure it is the operator but I don't know what to do. How tight do you have the belt on the treadle? It is suposed to be just tight enough to not slip but loose enough so it will not put any wear on the bushings in the machine. Are the treadle irons oiled? use sewing machine oil on spots were metal rubs metal and the pitman arm. It sounds like the belt is a little too tight and the pitman needs oiling. Try this out and let me know how it works. Billy |
