Nancy, a 401G is set up to be a treadle machine from the factory. I have a 401G and a 411G I posted pics on the photo gallery eons ago but here is the 401g for now. I think somewhere on here I posted pics to show the difference between the 401a and 401g. If I get my act together, I can post a thread by itself some time. I have a lot going on here until next week... I hope.

Bojangles, because it has no motor and I can't find one for it. The 401G has the bobbin winder on top and needs a different motor. Miriam and Cranky showed me how it could be a treadle. Miriam posted pics of hers as a treadle and so for now mine will be too. Until I can find a motor anyway. Thanks for asking. Bobbie

Yes, that was an expensive machine, but you couldn't have gotten the treadle from e-bay, and the machines off of e-bay become much more expensive if they are shipped properly! My only experience with buying a machine off e-bay was a little portable 99 - Occupied in Japan - machine. I wanted one machine with the Occuppied In Japan signature just because - it arrived with the case all broken up and the machine scratched up! DH was able to repair the case, but the scratches on the little 99 will stay. I tried touching them up with appliance touch up - it looked great until I cleaned the machine - then it wiped right off!

I hope. http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...3881-1803.html #18025 should be links to where I figured out how to treadle the 401G I have learned that it needs to be shimmed so there is room in the balance wheel and it needs a spinning wheel belt both of those make it run smoother and no cutting on the metal. I haven't figured out how to to that and still wind a bobbin. I looked it up. I hope it comes up alright |

The speed limit was 75 mph. Straight out of the cops mouth when he was told that our truck would NOT exceed 71 mph, was, "I had the gun on, and I wasn't sure if it was you, or the motor home that was passing you." :shock: :D After he saw the look on my face, he very politely let us be on our way. Does this look weird to anyone else? It's been posted on Craigslist and try as I might, I can't wrap my head around it. Am I missing something?

Also, it looks like someone put one of those pin cushion cloths around the machine - there are little scatches - the tell tale sign of pins being stuck in! I hate seeing that on a machine! I can't understand why people did that to their machines, but it seems like that was an accepted technique for a while!
Nancy The bobbin winder on this is on top also... she a arag around the arm with a 1000 pin's, I had to remove it to get teh top cover off and oil. plus see if I could move the needle over... This has a straight stitch needle plate with it , which changes out like a 401's with that and the quilt foot ,, you'd never know it's off set |

Charlee, here is the $15 Singer I rescued last Friday(because of your enablin' :D.
Its serial number is 16,484,650 making it a 1899 treadle head. The decals are silvered and in bad condition. It weighs a ton. My plan is to derust it and shine it up, then put it on top of one of my high built in shelves for decoration in one of our hallways. I already have 4 or 5 treadles with cabinets, in various working conditions and don't really need another one. It was a fun adventure as it always is with my best friend, DH! :) We're going specialty wood shopping next week. Guess I should add the photos. :D |
