WHAT??????? Obviously the DIL does not sew! I think I'd just roll over and give up if someone volunteered me to make 15 quilts. They must be small quilts???? Jeeze!

Looks can be deceiving. I had picked up a Dressmaker recently and was checking it out today. No, not that kind of Dressmaker, the sewing machine kind. LOL! :p I have seen many posts here saying what wonderful machines they are and I found one that I thought looked good on the outside but was apprehensive. It was locked up. So that concerned me. The guy I bought it from told me that if I didn't want it he was going to sell it for scrap(a threat?). He also told me that he had taken a few Treadle machines and scrapped them already. Thinking that it would suffer the same fate, I took a chance and bought it. My instincts were right after all. The short of it is that it has two metal gears in it that have broken teeth on them. So the poor old girl is not worth saving any more. :( But I recently picked up a Clone that needed some parts and this is going to be the donor for most of those parts and at least the Clone will be up and running soon thanks to the Dressmaker's parts. :)

Hello dirty1mom.Need a cord/pedal for Singer Magic 690U Baby Coming call 610-657-1060
Hi...dirty1mom....I am in dire need of a Singer Magic 690U cord and foot pedal as well as a Slide Plate.
I have a new grandchild coming...and my sewing machine which was stored lost the above items. Let me know if you can help. Call Mary at 610-657-1060 Thank you so much[ QUOTE=dirty1mom;3162597]I am not sure I want to hang out here anymore! I stopped at Goodwill on my way home, didn't find what I was looking for. But a Singer Magic Bobbin Deluxe Model 690U decided to come home with me. All the cams are with it. Made in Japan. Don't know where the serial number is. Now I have to figure out what it is and how to use it. It has a strange large bobbin in it. I didn't need another machine, but it looks so sad sitting there all dirty and forlorn and $10.00. Oh well.
|

I picked up three more project machines this weekend. A Kenmore Stylist 86, a Singer Model 15 that I had thought was a clone at first, and a Singer 99-13 in a bentwood case.

I would love to see the rest of the machine go to a good home that would need it. I just don't know when I will be needing anything else from it unless I find another with perhaps another or different problem.I really don't want to scrap it. I will keep it for a while but the orphans are not going to be able to be here long. The two broken gears are under the cam stack and no, I do not have the additional cams for it either. Mostly the internal stuff is what is left but not toyed with and in pretty good shape if anyone is interested. I took the motor, electrics, footplate, slideplate, and the bobbin holder. ~G~

I have a blue-green one I am going to work on tomorrow. no way to get out of here with the amount of snow we had til it stops blowing and snowing. I have had my fill of going out in storms and am staying put. If work doesn't like it tough.

Thanks Nancy. I just posted above about the Dressmaker. I needed some parts from the Dressmaker to complete that Clone and I think I will use them for it. The Serial number on the clone matched up with Singer and I jumped the gun in my haste. It is a clone though. It will not be melted down or in a landfill anytime soon. I am not sure about the Dressmaker though. :( I have been cleaning up the 99 and the clone today and it is starting to look up for them both. :)

I'm pretty excited today. Nailed a Willcox and Gibbs. Came with original box and attachments!!! Decals are almost perfect which is what I have come to insist on. Sews but does need footpedal rewired. Will need a little French Polishing but overall I like it. Does anyone have a good source for needles?
