Yes it can it will just take a little bit of time and a can or two of WD-40. After you soak it then you can play with it and see if you can get it moving a bit. A kerosene bath is in order because the machine will definitely need a good cleaning of the mechanics. It could be dust, lint and old gummy oil keeping it from moving.

It is a good thing to first take a hair dryer and see if you can warm up the mechanics to see if they will move then. If so then it is old gummy oil keeping it from running. Then you can do the Kerosene bath.

Once you get the first vintage machine it always seems like they start following you home. Before you know it you will be wondering what furniture you can live with out to make room for more machines!

That is a W&G chain stitch machine from somewhere in the mid to late 1800's possibly very early 1900's at the latest.

So is $75 a reasonable price for it? I was thinking about offering less. I suppose I could go take a closer look tomorrow.

I took my 1919 Singer Treadle to my LQS up north and asked that she be tuned up and the treadle belt be replaced so I could use the treadle. Bob the repair guy almost hugged me. He was so happy because previously I told him I was going to have it converted to an electric machine. "Oh it is such a treasure and in such good condition! I am so happy you are going to keep it in its original form!" I will pick "Kate" up over memorial day weekend. That is the next time we will be going up north.

Look at her first, and make sure she's going to work....keep in mind that the needles for chain stitchers can be hard to come by...

And yep! ;) Offer less, and if you decide that you really want it, then settle at a higher price if need be.

Make them an offer the worse thing that happens is they say no but the original price of the machine was probably way over a grand depending on the year it was made. ( I am guessing the 60's) Necchi is a really good machine to own.
