I have started cleaning my treadle! It is coming along pretty good, but I would like to know if there is a trick to getting the rust off the hand wheel?! And part of the pretty decals are coming off..is that supposed to do that?

Thanks for the Help!

Karen the decals should be treated very gently so their integrity will not be compromised. But it sounds like the shellac is already worn down so you need to be very careful when cleaning the surface.

There are several ways to cleaning the rust off of the handwheel and plated parts. If you have a battery charger you can clean it off with electrolysis or use vinegar and water solution.

Ok you guys in the know, I just purchased from e-bay some 127X1 needles for my Singer 9W! The ad read 2 127X1 E HH NOS Vintage Sewing Machine Needles 14 CLOS. The guy says he purchased them 30 years ago and they are made in Holland. They are expensive, so I hope I bought something I can use on my Singer 9W??????????

Also, I am so excited!!@! I just got done cleaning (took me a week using Billy's tutorials) my Singer 27 1901 machine! I got her up and running today and she is making perfect stitches -- after sitting for 60 years in a barn --YIPEEEEEEEEE.

I am giving her to a friend who will appreciate the grand old lady that she is as I already have 3 other treadles!

Oh and I forgot, I also got my weird little Chandler up and running and it does a blind hem stitch -- chain only with a looper! So cool.

ok, I have a confession. I have become quite addicted to sewing machines. Today I had the TV on (I was also checking the Vintage board on the computer) and saw a commercial. It was for the storage bags that you vacuum and suck all the air out of. Well as the commercial went on, it was showing how great theses bags were (and they kept doubling the offer, if the commercial had last 30 seconds longer you could of bought 50 for the price of one, but I digress  ). They had the bags stacked up on this table with a sewing machine. I immediately identified the machine as an Elna Supermatic, just like the one in Miz Johnny's avatar. At that point I became much more interested in the machine than the bags. So I guess I truly am addicted to machines
