Here is a machine you don't see everyday. Its a circa 1980 Singer Starlet 496. I keep this machine for its good zigzag stitch. Plus its light and pretty cool the way it all folds up into itself. Its just like a Singer Genie, but it has a free arm feature.

The foot pedal and manual are stored in the slide out peace with the thread diagram on it. It weighs about 12 pounds I'm guessing and is mostly plastic but the free arm is metal. Sharon |

I cleaned up most of the head components for my Wheeler Wilson #10 this weekend.
This machine spins SOOOOO smoothly, it is hard to remember that it was once rusted solid. |

Kenmore Question

Could someone tell me how to use the zig zag on this machine? I see the knob but can't figure out how to move it and keep it in one spot. Thank you. This sews quietly and smoothly but I do need the zig zag. I am out to sew so will be back shortly to see if someone can help me on this. Thanks again.

those fiddle bases are so cool, you never see them around where I live. If I ever find one for a decent price, I'll snatch it up just to have a piece of sewing history.
