Very nice Standard treadle! There are several people on this board who have Standard treadles. Vintagemotif, Monica, is one. Did you get any attachments with that Standard? There is a special chain stitch attachment for Standards. Cathy, Mizkaki, should be able to answer any questions on the Standard too. Congratulations! Your decals look great - I would be very careful when cleaning that machine! Clean only with sewing machine oil so you don't silver the decals!
Nancy Today someone offered me a Coffin top sewing machine and sight unseen for $40 I am not going to be able to pass it up. I will get that machine on Saturday. They said if I was able to restore the cabinet of a old Playertone talking machine and bring back the beauty then I should be able to get the cabinet of this looking nice as well. So, I'll just have to see. I'll post pics as soon as I take them and find out what this mysterious beauty is. |
Thanks Dan, I've been seeing everyone rave about these machine, so you know I couldn't pass it up. I hope to do some FM quilting on it.

I have a 1936 Singer 201k-4 hand crank that I prefer to treadle, Randi lives in a Singer straight leg treadle cabinet. Its a smooth machine, nearly silent when properly oiled. It was my first people powered machine. I love piecing quilts with it, also is nice for straight line quilting, but not good for free motion quilting.

I have not found much information on this one, yet. She is similar to Hollyann beautiful machine, but appears to be a newer model. The bobbin cover has multiple patent dates. Earliest one is 1889 with the latest being 1910. The machine I have has been made after that as it states Patent Applied for on the plate as well as on the inside decal. If anyone has more information I would be greatly appreciative.

I brought a 115 machine head to the Dec 5 N. California TOGA. I did not bring the treadle base and some folks wanted to see it. Here are pictures of the 5 drawer maple cabinet that the Tiffany/Gingerbread head came in it. I bought this in MN last year. (The other two Singer treadles I have are 7 drawer oak.) I do prefer the tighter grain on the maple cabinet over the oak. I've only used sewing machine oil on the cabinet so far although I have purchased products to improve its appearance. I haven't decided if I want to mess with it or not. I tend to prefer to leave things in their original condition and I sort of enjoy the battle scars of a well loved and used machine. The pictures aren't the best since the sun in streaming in right now. There comes a time when you cut your profit margin in order to make a buck. He brings in machines by the hundreds a few times a year, so you'd think he would want to move these sooner rather than later but apparently not. *sigh* my partner and I have made him a few offers on this lot. :(
