Vintage White machine

Saturday, I picked up a vintage White sewing machine for $75. From what I can tell the serial number is 1X774, which I think means it was made in the mid-late 1920's. It's in a cabinet, with a case full of attachments. HELP! How do I clean/oil it? How do I take the bobbin out, fill and load it? Are there ANY manuals out there ANYWHERE about this really cool machine???

I think I got a good deal, even if it is just a display item, but I was told it is operational. Anybody???

nice old machine, has back clamps attachments. I like your cabinet and I have never seen drawers like those before. I lloks like an embossed white, does she work?

love the drawers in that cabinet! I've never seen that! I have 4 whites, one in a martha washington, but the other three in cases. I love the embossed one but don't have it...yet! Let me know how she works!

Teri, you have a White Rotary Electric Crinkle Embossed Black machine. I have one just like it. You are lucky to get the machine complete - parts are hard to find for that machine. Here is a manual you can download for free. That machine is a little tricky to thread - it will take a little practice to figure it out, but with the manual you can get it going. The bobbins are different from any Singer bobbins, and they load differently. My machine is a 1931 model. Remember, electricity was not common in most homes until the late 1920's! http://www.singerco.com/uploads/down...c-book-13-.pdf

Also, that White Rotary takes a normal 15x1 needle that most all machines take today! Some of the vintage Whites take a much harder to find needle, but not this one! I'd use a Schmetz Univeral. They work great with the vintage machines.

Also, if I remember right, the HW turns the opposite way that a Singer turns. It goes away from you - check the manual!

BoJangles - thank you! I just got back to this (taking classes full time, so my time is limited), but I bookmarked the manual and hope to have some time next week to play around with it some. I'd love to do some piecing on it!

Amyjo - I've turned her on, but that's as far as I've gotten :) I love the cabinet as well, and the drawers are an added bonus.

Nancy, this is a great manual...I have a singer, got my manual from ISMACS.com... also found my needle sizes and lots of information ...hope this helps too.

Might try ISMACS.com....I got a lot of information on that sight...Jane
