When boyfriends help!

So my poor little FW is constantly being tinkered with... My dad repairs antique cars as a hobby, and I have that fiddle gene--I have to see if I can fix this, upgrade this, whatever it might be. So I knew my little girl was missing a cushion, but when I went to replace that this evening I found three screws locked tight, one missing, a cushion held in by glue, one smashed and rotted, one relatively whole, and one that had turned into cement of some sort.

After almost destroying the little screwdriver that came with my Janome trying to get them out my wonderful, DBF came out of the closet with his lovely box of tools and found the perfect screwdriver and got all three screws out in one fell swoop. It took me a little while to chisel out the cement foot, but thanks to him my FW sits ever so prettily on the table. I've got a new set of screws coming in next week along with a spare belt, but I wanted to brag about him. :) He's such a good boyfriend, isn't he?

That is great. I hope you are sewing soon too!

Haha, fat chance of that happening--his mother is the one who got me into quilting, so he just kinda sighs heavily whenever I go on about my hobby. :) He enjoys the nice warm quilts I make though!

What a sweet & talented guy! Sounds like a keeper. My DH would have destroyed her but he would have been proud to
"save" the screws intact! (We've had that experience before with a bread machine :D)

Aren't men handy? LOL I have my own set of tools that my husband asks for occasionally because they are in the house and his are outside. I just got my FW yesterday and was surprised to see that the pads on the machine are in great shape. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the foot controller. I will be chiseling those off.

Was waiting on FW before I ordered parts for the 99K. Now I need 6 of those little pads and belts for both. Isn't tinkering fun?

Tinkering is so much fun. My hubby would never work on one of my machines. He might lossen the screw for me but I would have to remove it. He is not a good tinker.LOL

Haha!! I had a similar experience with my 301a...the little cushion feet were hard as rocks and squished into the little spaces. Had to break off the tops of them to get to the screws.

As for teaching him to quilt....don't say NEVER!! My DH decided to try it on a dare...and has been quilting for about 3 years.

Janice, that is so cool that your husband quilts also. I would love to see his work. Does he post on the blog here? If not, please get him to post his work.

Brynn, I agree with others that your boyfriend sounds like a keeper. Enjoy quilting and using your 301a! Please post pictures of your quilts in the section, quilts made using vintage machines. We love looking at other folks creations!

My boyfriend has an amazing "eye" for patterns, color combinations, etc. I make photo memory quilts and now have him layout the photos. We met at our 50th high school reunion, Go Beavers!

We love to sew, most men love tools. So when the two meet, it is TRUE LOVE!!!! More and more men who loved working on cars in the old day (before all the computer stuff when on them), miss being able to work on straight forward things like FW's. You will both be sewing happy, with him helping with you FW. Happy Sewing
