Where to find base box for vintage machine head
I have a couple of Singer treadle machines. No cabinet or case. Just the machine. Is there a source for a wooden base box to put them in so they will sit up straight. It would be nice to be able to display them even though they are not in a treadle base. I did find this reference to a tute on how to make your own but don't know if I'm handy enough to make one. http://www.treadleon.net/woodshop/bu...dingbases.html

Joyce,
That is the same problem I have. I have been unable to find sources of new wood bases or entire cases. I have found a source for plastic ones, but haven't tried one yet. All I've found is old wood ones that need rebuilt and that's a pain. Joe |
I don't have a source, but do have instructions for making your own, if you would like I can email you those instructions.

pocoellie,
Are these the instructions from TreadleOn? If not, and you'd be willing, I'd like a set of the instructions too. Joe |

I found a mention of making boxes from scrap lumber here
http://mysewingmachineobsession.blog...1_archive.html Nothing fancy. Just something to hold the machine. The few times I've tried to build something it has come out fairly crude looking. Maybe it takes more patience than making a quilt - lol. |
Here's more detailed instructions from the same site I mentioned above. Not as fancy as the one from TreadleOn but a simple workable solution. Still, I wish I could purchase something already made.

I would like instructions, also. Thanks! Linda |
Cindy Peters at Stitches-in-Time on e-bay (or google her) has these. She has someone make them for her, last I knew. She is great for vintage parts.

There it is! vanginney (Michelle) from the QB ordered a base from Florida, here's her post on it, with a pic:
http://createquiltsew.wordpress.com/...34-sewing-box/ http://www.treadlesandtreasures.org/About-Us.html - you'll see the guy who makes them ETA: I've made a couple of utilitarian ones, they were just plywood to the same dimensions as a destroyed case I had, then sanded down to get the slivers off them. |
