Default question about treadle bases

I have a 1917 Singer Treadle machine. I have been on the hunt for a base to put it in, but didn't want pay 4 times what I paid for the machine for the base. I have been watching an online auction for a Wheeler and Wilson machine and base. Would it be sacrilege to put the Singer in this base until I find a Singer base?

Singer won't fit without modifying the cabinet opening. The W&W machines had a different size and shape of a base than the Singers. When Singer took over W&W they changed the base of the W&W machines to match the Singers and gave them a different model number. I'd keep looking for an original Singer cabinet. Joe

Sometimes a cheap purchase price on a machine just means there's more money available to buy the parts you need. Singer treadle bases are common (at least around my area). An affordable one will turn up. Sometimes a complete setup will be cheaper than buying an empty cabinet.

Also remember that the singer base might fit but you might not be able to close it or other issues. this is what I found when I put different singer machines on my 2 different bases.

You might try different places and or different times. Last day of estate sales, craigslist, goodwill, yard sales, the classifieds.. It seems to take forever when you are looking, but then there tends to be a flood..
