Default question on Minnesota S

I can not figure out what model number my Minnesota S would be. It says in the Sears info that it is a Davis ME, but does not give a number. I am guessing it is a 27 [?] Can anyone help me, please.

Your Minnesota S would have been made by Domestic (Davis only made Minnesota machines to the model L)

If it's a vibrating shuttle, then it was most likely made to compete with Singer's 27...but the model "number" would be the "S".

Thanks, Charlee. I always see people referring to their machines by number and I was curious. Linda

Default Minnesota S

Hi,
Davis did make a model S for Sears around 1910 for a few years. At this time Sears was bringing in some Domestic models but I believe only Davis made the S which is pretty much the same as the Minnesota B or Davis ME. Davis didn't give their machines numbers like Singer but rather letters or names (Vertical Feed)

I missed this yesterday...

Jon, the Sears website said that Davis only made machines to the model "L"...and that after that they were made by Domestic...that information is wrong? (Good info to know!)

Hi Charlee,
Here's a link to the very little information out there on Sears Minnesota's:
http://www.ismacs.net/sears/sears.html
The S is about 3/4 way down the page and replaced the "B" around 1910. I've seen a few actual pictures of them and there definitely made by Davis. I have an "A" which is similar to the "S" but with a few differences and these are nice machines and there doesn't seem to be much demand for them.
Seems like a lot of the old sewing machine information is incorrect and am especially weary when looking for needle sizes for "badged" machines. Guess it adds to the fun.

Kinda makes your head spin...doesn't it? So there's no alphabetical order to these machines....makes it hard for someone like me that depends on it!!

Davis made a Minnesotta A, B, C, D, F, K, & S. Then Davis has there own model D, E, ME, M, N, T along with there named models. Add to this the Minnesota's made by Domestic and others and it does get very confusing especially since the Model "A" is also made by both makers. The square feed dog cover plate tips me off if it's Davis made as compared to the circular.
Bit of a puzzle trying to figure it out
