Default Quick question on cabinets

I brought in a recent purchase to play with today and the table top that folds out to the left is not level and feels like I shouldn't put any weight on it or it will just give way. Is there a quick fix for this that doesn't ruin the look of the cabinet.

It looks like one of the previous owners used a heavy thick felt strip to brace it with all the way across as there is just a little left on the wood under the hinges.

find a 'brace' to put under the end of the table top- like a table leg or board of some sort that will hold it up, give it support. the other option is remove the hinges, fill the holes, level & reattach with new screw holes...but a brace will help keep it from *sinking* again- the hinges are 'stretched' out

My Mom's 301 has a similar cabinet. Hers has an arm that extends when you open the lid.

I'm thinking a strip of cardboard where there was once a strip of foam. Or have your dh make a T shaped leg the exact height you need, and place it underneath the lid when it's open. Pad with batting to keep it from damaging your lid. Using a leg would help keep the hinges from bending out of shape further.

The machine is a nice one! What is the name of the machine?

Hi Christine, It is a Kenmore 117.740 I fell in love with, paid $90.00 with the cabinet. Machine are pricy around here as we have tons of quilters. The good machines are snapped up. I got lucky because this one just came into the store and didn't even have a price yet.

I have several that require the door to be open to support the lid. All of them have some sort of a felt bumper on the top edge of the door.

In all cases, you need to have the door open to get under the machine anyway - you could not use the machine with the door closed.

Thank you for telling me about the felt because this one doesn't have any. I will buy some next time I go Redding where we have Joanns.

My 1940s Necchi has the same arrangement but no felt. I don't feel it needs any.
