OK I've been going through my mom's machines and some of my own and am wanting to try quilting my next quilt on one (thinking on the Singer 15-90) will any darning foot/free motion foot for low shank work? or walking foot for low shank? or is there any particular brands that work better? I'm wondering because I read something somewhere(sheesh should write down where so I'd remember but was probably here LOL!) about newer walking feet sometimes not feeding right on the older machines even though they're for that particular shank. so far the plastic 1/4 inch foot I got for piecing is doing ok on the 15-91 (though the plastic sorta ruins the 'mood') but wondering about the attachments for quilting.

Pretty much any low shank hopping or darning foot will fit, some work better than others, it's a matter of personal preference really. I have one 15 class clone that doesn't like any foot but her own, so I actually do free motion quilting on her with her straight stitch foot. She doesn't even care whether I drop her feed dogs or not. I loosen the presser foot pressure, set her stitch length to zero and away she goes.
For the walking foot you want a low shank one made for straight stitch machines so it's dogs line up with the machines dogs.

I recently did a quilt on my 15 clone and it FMQs beautifully. No problems with tension or eyelashes. I just put on the open toe foot, lowered the feed dogs and away I went. The foot I used was a generic and the machine had no problems with it. My only issue was lack of throat space. I'll definitely be using the 15 clone for smaller projects.

I use my 15-91 exclusively for quilting. I have an 'Alphasew free motion guide foot-P60410' for FMQ, and an 'Alphasew P60400" walking foot. I found that I had to remove the thread cutter from the presser bar for them to fit well but without the cutter they fit just fine. I'm pretty sure that I got them from www.sew-classic.com. Do let us know how things work out.

for some reason some of the posts I make with my ipad aren't going through :-(
yesterday I was looking through some sewing stuff from my mom's stash and found a manual for the 66-18? think that's the specific model - I think it's the rough finish one I mentioned a while back..anyways some interesting stuff and when I got to the part about embroidery and darning it has a plate or something that goes over the feed dogs- no darning foot shown in the illustration. so is something like this plate available for the 15-90? and I don't need a darning foot for free motion? kinda thinking it might be nice to have something there for the fingers though I think that sucker could still go through a finger if it got too close LOL!

Yes there are darning plates made for the 15-90. The trick is to finding an OEM Singer unit.
They look like this:

Sew-Classic has generic feed dog cover plates and darning feet of several designs. I have both sizes of the Singer OEM ones and several darning feet, but I haven't used them. So, I can't say which works best on what machine.

OEM- Original Equipment Manufacturer.
You can get by with a buttonholer feed dog cover too if you don't have the kinds Joe posted.
