Removing Spilled paint from Sewing machine
So I got this 115 the same day I picked up the 411G. I have done a preliminary clean up on it, and the shellac is fairly damaged on the bed. I may use Glenn's process on it, but first I think I need to remove the paint that's been spilled on it.
I have no idea what sort of paint it is, nor how long it's been there.

Where the shellac is intact you may have some luck as shellac is resistant to some of the more common pain solvents but in general - OUCH! Goof off has worked for us in the past removing dried latex paint but I don't know what it will do to the shellac or decals. Best guess is not good. Very, very careful cleaning is the only thing I can suggest. Pretty decal set otherwise. Are those the owl decals?

I was thinking I might try whatever processes people suggest on the Rung by the balance wheel. It's the least noticeable spot.

Ismacs calls it "Wings" The only model they have it listed for is the 115. It's how I knew what the machine was as soon as I saw it. I'd seen one other before, but it was really beat up.

Oh! I meant the first one I saw was bad. This one was grungy (still is) but at least all the black is present, and the chrome isn't rusty.
I was looking for the pics I took of the other ones (there were 4 machines that I found in a Junk shop, one of them was the 115) and I can't find them. I will look some more though.

Here we go, These are the 4 machines I found that day:
It turns out I misremembered, the 115 was the best of the bunch that day. The (1)28 was the one missing all of the paint. The VS2 I took a pic of only be back because there was too much junk in front of it, and I only needed the images for my reference, the last one, I think was a Jones that someone painted, including the bobbin winder, so it was junk. It was in a Singer treadle stand with Jones irons, so the guy tried to tell me that Singer had made the machine for Jones. Or vice versa,... Singer Irons with a Jones table...
It hurt my heart to see those machines in there like that. He's not going to get much if any money for those machines, so I bet in a few more years, if that, they'll be at the dump.

DH and I both quite like that decal, it's why I knew he probably wouldn't mutter under his breath too much when I left the house for one machine and came home with 2 last week.
As best I can tell, according to ISMACS any way, the 115 is the only machine they put it on. I find it interesting that both machines I've encountered now have been pretty rough, though the 115 seems to be a fairly rare bird (ooops! punt not intended) all around.
I will try a little goo gone on the hand wheel cover and see what happens. Maybe I'll get lucky.
Is goof off and goo gone the same product? I've seen goo gone here...
The machines in my byline are a running tally of how bad my illness is getting. This is, with the exception of the 27, less than 1 year of collecting.
I'm a little afraid of what year 10 will look like....

Tammi - Goo Gone and Goof Off aren't the same. Goo Gone is much gentler but I doubt it will have much effect on cured paint. Goof Off is specifically marketed for removing cured latex paint.
I've thought about putting the symbols of my addiction in my signature but I don't think I want to see them all written down like that!

Hmm,.. ok,.. I will try the goo gone that I have in the house, then if it doesn't work, I'll put the goof off on the shopping list for the weekend. Gee, the chemical product list in the sewing room is starting to rival the one in the garage....
I'm hoping a written record may serve to embarrass me into exercising a little restraint. I think I have to reach a certain number first though... possibly 50 or more.
