Default Restoring Singer Featherweight!! Need help, please!

My dad loaned me one of his 2 Singer Featherweights. I went to service it last night and I discovered that it is missing the WHOLE bobbin area!!

(The 1st 3 pics are of the area the bobbin pieces are missing.)

The bobbin base and case should be on that post!!!

This is what it SHOULD look like, with and without bobbin case!

Does ANYONE have any sites they could share with me, so I could buy those missing parts, please???

Thank you SO MUCH!

Oh my! Someone misplaced the entire unit - must have been something very important to be so distracted.

Looks like someone started to part out the machine for some reason. You might want to further check out the machine before ordering parts as there may be a reason this was removed.

I've run the machine for an extensive amount of time and it runs great. I think someone might have removed it to fully service the machine and then misplaced the bobbin parts.

Unfortunately, you'll mostly be able to get reproductions (China) from vendors and online sites. Try April's 30 shop for original parts. If the original parts are important to you, be prepared for the sticker shock. Even repros. are very expensive. The bobbin case and bobbin assembly are the "heart" of the machine and the parts that are the most often pilfered and the most expensive to replace! The bobbin case is used on the 301 also, so they're in demand. I've purchased parts via ebay sellers(originals) and have been pleased. This may take a while. I would imagine you're going to have to spend at least $100 to get those parts. Probably more.

The missing parts are the hook assembly (hook and bobbin case base) and the bobbin case. The bobbin case base is the part with the finger that is in the middle of the hook assembly. If buying used parts make sure that the parts are from a 221 and not a 301. The finger on the bobbin case base is slightly different between the 221 and 301. They are not interchangeable. The 221 style will fit the 301, but not stay in between the springs of the throat plate when running at normal speeds.

I have had nothing but trouble with the Chinese made bobbin cases that I get from my wholesale house. Everyone has had to be adjusted by grinding and sometimes replacing the flat tension spring. Buy a good used bobbin case if possible.

This machine is not just missing the "bobbin pieces," it's missing the entire hook assembly. No one that I know of makes a replacement hook assembly for Featherweights, so you'd have to buy them from someone with a parts machine.

I was able to get the bobbin case on Sew Classic (http://shop.sew-classic.com/) and the bobbin hook assembly and carrying case on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/sch/Sewing-Machine-Parts). I also found Singer Featherweight bobbins on Amazon.

Grand total for today's purchases:

$190.83
Which covered a bobbin case, bobbin hook assembly, carrying case, and 50 bobbins.

Overall it is still a good price to pay to make your Featherweight a usable sewing machine again considering the prices that complete machines are going for.
