Default Sews by its self

Well........I was sewing on one of my Bernina 802 sport mechanical machines and when I was finished, I noticed the needle went into the bobbin area, then back up. Since I was standing beside the machine I was shocked to say the least. What would cause that?

A little dust inside the foot pedal, maybe. It can prevent the top of the pedal from going all the way to the "off" position.

My Bernina foot control had to be replaced when it continued sewing when my foot was not on it. It might be your foot control.

The foot controls have a board in them with capacitors that go bad. I've repaired several of them. It's possible yours is starting to have problems. You can get the board and foot control repaired.

Any Bernina tech at a dealership will know how to do it. It's typically less expensive than a repro foot control and the new repros don't work nearly as well.

You need to take the foot control apart and take a pencil eraser to all of the metal contacts and erase them. That's what my tech showed me to do when my Bernina1031 was sewing all by itself. It worked!

Old Berninas had a problem with capacitor that were installed to lower noise on the line. The fix was to remove them. 802 might be just that old, do a Google search, and I think you'll find something.
