Thumbs up Magic!

I am in the zone piecing a quilt top on my nearly 100 year old Red Eye treadle. Who all treadled today?

I haver two treadles, a red eye and a 15 Centenial (Mary Kelly). Mary Kelly is a straight leg made in England and sews like a dream. It has a reverse. I bought her from a woman who told me the machine was owned by her mom, Mary Kelly, in New Mexico. It has damage to the patina and wood from standing in the sun behind a window for years and then being stored after Mary Kelly passed away. Her daughter took it to California where I bought it.

My mind wonders where my Red Eye 66 treadle came from, who owned it and what they made on it. I bought it from a retired antique dealer and it supposedly came from back east. We are west coast and it seems many of the treadles here at one time came from the east with their owners.

Your Redeye is beautiful! I too often think about the history of vintage and antique items.

I wish we could know about the personal history of our pieces. I do love your assistants! I'm sure they give very detailed advice and encouragement.

auntypiggy and monroe Thanks for your responses. I wonder if I should tape a little note underneath some where incase the machines end up some where else down the road.

Monroe you are right, Sweety and Tweety are very helpful when it comes to sewing. LOL You should hear my African Grey. She talks up a storm and has attitude. I am not sure how she would do a top of the Red Eye. It might startle her. I better leave her on her stand. I am always scared to get my 7 lb doggie under the treadle base plate. She always visits me when I am sewing.

Love your Red eye! I have a Sphinx and a Gingerbread and love to use them. I just wonder what kind of tales they would tell!

I think about that too. It would be amazing to know the history of these old machines. How many wedding dresses, layettes, and quilts did they make? What was life like for their owners? Most of the machines being made today won't last long enough to have a real history.

Your redeye is beautiful. The decals and the cabinet are in great shape.

Love those little cutie birds--but alas, so do I love cats. Never the twain shall meet at my house.....
