Can anyone tell me the difference between each of the 15 machines. There seems to be 15-91, 15-90, 15-88.
15-89, 15 -96 and 15-98? It is so confusing. I am getting a Singer treadle tonight. My daughter is bringing it with her from Woodbury. I don't have the serial number yet, and there will be no manual with it. I have been looking up everything I can find on the internet. I am sure it is a series 15, the tension knob is to the left in the very front of the machine, kind of like a headlight. Beyond that I am confused.

Singer treadle model number is JC246593. I went to all the websites for dating and identifying the machine. One place said it is a 1948 and the other one said 1954. No site told me exactly what the model was, but I still think it is a 15-96 treadle, but I am still not sure. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Marilyn

know the numbers after it....cover of the manual with machine says 15-89. 15-90. 15-91

Go to the link and scroll down until you reach the 15-'s. The 15-89 would have a handcrank. The 15-90 has the motor in the back with a belt attached. The 15-91 has the "potted" motor on the back and is gear driven (no belt).

89, 90, and 91 are the same with different power source

89 is treadle, usually has spoked flywheel. Will work fine with motor too.
90 is same as 89 with solid flywheel and external motor.
91 is same basic machine with the built on ( not in) potted motor with gears


Most of the different 15 models are heavier duty industrial. There weren't all that many versions of the domestic model. I think that is what leads to sellers thinking their 15 is industrial when they really have a domestic model. Some where the same on the outside with heavy duty insides.

Sometimes the digits after the model number only designate how the machine was powered. 15-91s are easy to spot. They're the ones with the potted (built in) motor on the back. I really can't tell the difference between all the variations. Earlier ones have different stitch length regulators and no reverse.

There is a belt-driven 15 that's shaped like the 15-125 but I don't know its model number.

Here's a 15-96. Maybe 96 was the British model with RAF decals?

According to the chart you posted the belt driven 15 similar in shape to the 15-125 is a 15-75.

The 15-96 wasn't the only 15 with the RAF decal set. I have a Singer 15K110 with the RAF decals although mine has the large chromed handwheel so it must have been changed out at some point in time.
