Hubby and I stopped at a resale shop today. I found a really nice Singer 201 in a cabinet, it also had a matching stool with storage underneath. It was in really good shape, was nice and clean. Price tag was $180 and I really wanted to bring her home with me, but hubby said no. I jotted down the serial number and looked it up when we got home. It is a 1946.

Beckalou, I feel for ya, I've had to leave them behind too, but in this case your hubby was right. At best the machine with the cabinet and stool would be worth about $125 in primo condition.

I bought my 1949 201-2 (also in a cabinet with matching storage stool) from it's original owner's grandson after she passed away. The drawers were loaded with the cutest little grandmotherly bits of thread and lace and buttons. I only paid $75 for mine and she runs like a little top.

I have a 201 and pd $200.00 for her. This machine is a jewel.
These machines have an heavy duty motor,feeddogs drop for FM and does a beautiful straight stitch. Mine was not in a cabinet,wish it was so I don't haevy to carry it to the table. They are heavy.

Here in Florida they are like hens teeth.

I have a '47 201-2, my mom got me in 1956. I have the 3 drawers on the right cabinet plus stool with storage. Of my 3 vintage Singers it is still my very favorite. Fabulous for piecing, sewing through leather and suede, you name it. It is so quiet, I refer to it as 'driving like a Rolls Royce'. Keep watching for another one, then grab it if the head is in good condiiton after you have tried sewing with it. The neat thing about the 201 is that all the attachments are interchangable with a 221 or 222.

Thank you so much! I had just cut my hair shorter in this one...and am trying to get all of the color cut out of it...I think the next haircut will do that for me!

I paid $75 for my 201k-4 hand crank. Its now treadle powered, wonderful machine, so smooth and quiet to sew with.
My machine was made in 1936.
