Red face Singer 201

Thanks so much for the help I received from members concerning my mom's vintage Singer 201. I got it going and it sews a beautiful stitch and the motor is so quiet. It sews better than my $1000 Bernina Activa 230. Those new machines will never last as long as the old ones. My 201 is 72 years old. I just love her. I think I'll name her Peg after my mom.

Those machines are getterdone type machines aren't they?
Here is Rainy's blog http://vssmb.blogspot.com/ - he has done a lot with those old 201's
You can get parts and the best bobbins from sew-classic.

Thanks, Miriam. That blog is very informative. I've saved it in my favorites. I'm sure I will use it often.

Granny: I have been looking for a featherweight 201 for a while. Any suggestions as to where I should look and what price I might look for. I am a senior on a limited income. I have a Janome 3125 that they do not make any more. It weighs about 11 pounds. I have only been quilting for three years. My first quilt was entirely by hand, Log Cabin, but since I have moved to Stockton I have been machine piecing and hand quilting. I take quilting classes at Joann's with a wonderful teacher, Kristi. She allows the class to make their own quilts. I have been designing my own, and I drive her crazy. I have grey hair, but I am giving her a few. You can e mail me at [email protected] if you have any suggestions. Thanks Lois

Ibmyway, The 201 is so NOT a featherweight. It is a heavy weight. The 221 is a featherweight. You can look on Craig's List in your area they go for $200 on up. You might find a 201 for a lot less money.
