Default Singer 476 bobbin size

I was asked to check out why the bobbin didn't "go around" in a Singer 476 Stylist. After a good cleaning and inspection found the gear at the top of the shaft was half gone.

However, I haven't been able to determine if the bobbin should be a 15 or 66. She said it came with a "bigger" one & thought it was too large. There was another (a 66) in the box, so she replaced it. From all the manuals and diagrams I've found, I can't tell which is right. Anyone know which size?

This machine was made in Scotland in '61. It has the metal bobbin case unlike the U.S. versions which are plastic for that model. I've been told to use metal w/metal and plastic w/plastic -- so really feel confused.

Hoping for help!

Kay,

My information shows the 476 as a drop in bobbin. If this is what yours is, then it needs a class 66 bobbin.

In the 478 manual it states the clear plastic bobbins are the right ones. I'd go with that, they're also really cheap.
