Default Singer 503

A friend gave me a 503 in pretty good shape but it is missing the top. Any ideals where I could buy one, have checked e-bay none as of today. It has 9 cams, only 3 feet but I do not need too many feet as I only quilt.I am going to clean and oil her this weekend runs and sounds great.

You might check the website bonanza.com I found some parts there a while back, it seems like there are a lot of sewing machine parts listed there.

If I can not find the hinged lid would it hurt sewing with out it?

Nope. The lid is not needed in order to sew. It's probably more convenient to not have it on there.

no, they are actually removable and made to be used with the lid open/off. Kind of a silly design if you ask me.

Save your money and sew with out the lid - the lid is some kind of decoration - serves no purpose other than to fall off at inconvenient times - like every time you open it in or out of a cabinet......

I like the lids. It has the purpose of keeping dirt, lint, and airborne junk out of the top. It won't fall off unless you abuse it. I've got a 401 and two 500s and the tops have NEVER come off.

Here is a possible source for a top:

The Sewing Center
2504 S. MacArthur Blvd.
Springfield, IL
Phone: 217-525-7744
Steve Sutsser

I asked him yesterday about the top and he said he might have one. You'll have to contact him to find out.

Besides an incomplete machine just don't look right.

I have seen them on Ebay and listed one on Ebay before. If you are patient, it will come up.
