Default singer 66-16 for $50.00?

There is a Singer 66-16 for sell by the granddaughter that was gifted it, for 50.00. She says the cord needs replaced but that it does have the foot control. No attachments in the cabinet other than a button holer. The cabinet is in nice shape. My spouse is willing to rewire it for me. How hard are the bobbins and feet for this model to find? And is it worth 50.00 considering the dearth of accessories and needing rewired?

If it's worth it to you, then, it's worth it. Price really depends on condition, area, extras. If you are thinking of buying it, be sure to take along some thread, fabric and a needle so you can check it out. Bobbins and feet are pretty easy to find for a singer 66.

Singer 66s use easy to get Class 66 bobbins, easier to get 15x1 needles, and low shank feet and accessories.
Wiring sets can be had from your local SMG or Sew-Classic. Or usually you can rewire it yourself.

Manuals can be had on line, not that there's anything complicated about Singer 66s.

I've never paid that much for a 66-anything, but then I've been lucky. If you want it and are willing to give it the TLC it needs then $50.00 isn't too bad.

At $50 if you're looking to resell at a profit it'll be a tough sell. If you want the machine for yourself $50 isn't bad. My 66 is one of my favorites to sew with and as Joe said bobbins and needles are easy to find.

That should be the 66 with reverse!!! If you use it on a hand crank or a treadle having that reverse is really nice.

A 66 in a cabinet for $50 sounds like a good deal to me

That's what I paid for mine in a really sad table and relatively rough shape. Didn't bother me as I had another table I wanted the machine for. Still working on refurbing it. Ripping apart the tension mechanism scares the devil out of me! The wiring seems to be really straight forward to re do. Mine is a red eye and I'm happy with the price I paid even for the condition it is in. Decals are perfect. Dirt I can clean; wiring I can do. Tension...

I probably wouldn't think twice about paying up to$50 for any machine if I wanted it enough but cabinets take up a lot of space that I don't have. since I already have a couple of 66's (and since I'm still rooky-ish I'd have to look to see which particular ones!) so I'd want the goodies with me and know it works and/or have a cabinet I really like. I think my 66's are a red eye? has the pretty design in red and I thnk the other is a centennial but guy Igot it from said that didn't make it rare. I don' remember the prices but he wasn't trying to take me to the cleaners. but if I didn't have the I'd pay again -shipping alone can run 50 bucks

I saw a Singer 301 in a cabinet yesterday for $65. Do you think that is a good price?
