Singer 9W?

Singer 9W?
I just "obtained" this off CL...only problem is....it is 9 hours away from me. I am sitting in my sewing studio looking at 11.5" of snow and it's still snowing, lol! The pics are typical CL quality. I paid little to nothing and was really only after the 7 drawer cabinet for a friend so it's no big deal if it ends up the machine isn't complete or whatever. But this is an older couple in a teeny town out in nowhere western NE. I doubt very much they would be deceitful. Anyway....anyone happen to have a manual for this machine? I really know next to nothing about them, like are needles hard to find? Bobbins? I will be excited for spring so I can road trip out that direction. We will probably go visit Estes Park or something so the gas $ is justified. Lol.

I got my manual from Relics. { http://www.tias.com/stores/relics/ } actually paid money for it ... .
The bobbins are either a very rare donut type if the machine is an early one, or the same bobbin the FeatherWeights use if later.
The hand wheel rotates clockwise, in other words away from you.
It uses the obsolete 127x1 needles. Catch as catch can. eBay is probably the best source for them.
You can however use the MY1014 industrial needles as a substitute.
Personally I'd keep the ensemble together. The machine is useless without the treadle and they are great sewing machines. Very smooth and quiet.

I see what looks like FW style bobbins in the drawer here along with a pill bottle full of bobbins. Maybe the hassle will just be the needles. Where would I have them look for the serial #? I read that the numbers without the W are the later style. I hate to buy a manual if I end up re gifting it. Anyone want to trade some vintage Brother bobbins or anything? Lol.

I am editing to add....since this fits in an obviously Singer cabinet, it does then have the Singer bobbin as they had already made the Singer modifications. Correct?

For a similar Wheeler and Wilson D9. There is a better copy in the W&W Yahoo group. Your model is a 9W7. Some early 9W7's used bagel bobbins but your fortunate to have a later one. 9W1 is identical to W&W D9 except it was made after Singer took over W&W in late 1905. I believe the first 9W7's were made in 1908 and were replaced with model 115 in 1913.

The serial number is behind the pillar I believe. I have one with a W prefix and one without. They are otherwise identical. Both mine use the FW type bobbins.
Needles are not that hard to find if you look, and the MY1014s can be had from lots of places.

thanks Jon! This is wonderful information and I am grateful you have shared! I noticed you are the one who uploaded the manual to the W&W Yahoo group. So I assume this manual will be close if not identical for my machine? I noticed the W&W was marked out and Singer stamped above it. Very interesting!
Cosmetics and the bobbin is main difference as I don't believe Singer changed any working parts except bobbin and case. These machines run silky smooth and you might want to give it a whirl before your friend gets it---the head will fit in most Singer treadle cabinets if you hold onto it.
