I haven't tried mine either but just scanned oil points on right and left side. Last copyright of mine is 1946.

Great, thanks, Janey!
Do you think I should clean it with kerosene first, and then oil?

I'm not sure. I will sometimes tear things apart to clean all I can. Other times if it is moving fairly smoothly with just oiling properly I will leave it at that. I know that just using a drop of Tri-flow will loosen things up a tad better than oil. Need a picture . (if you email me one, I will post) Most of the buttonhole attachments I've seen probably just need to be wiped off and looking at a 121704 looks like it might be kind of complicated to get it back together.

Treat them like your sewing machine. Everywhere that two pieces of metal rub together gets a drop of oil. If it's really dirty or stiff you might want to take it apart to clean and oil it. Just pay attention to how you do it so you can get things back together.

They are so cheap just find a good one somewhere... I don't think I've ever seen one in such bad shape it had to be disassembled. I've take top covers off but I haven't found it necessary to do more than that. Some good oil should do the job.
