Relics is the first place I looked. I've bought several owners manuals from them and also recommended lots of folks to check them out. In this case they didn't have what I need.

I have a repair manual pdf for Singer swing needles (like a 401). I would be happy to share it with anyone here.

I would love to take Ray's course as well, but it's a little pricey for me right now.

janeite,

I'd love to have it or a copy of it. We've got a 401 too.

Have you tried the Vintage Singers Yahoo group? or the Vintage Sewing Machine group? I found one or two repair manuals in those groups.

Nope I haven't gone to the Yahoo groups. I have one devil of a time navigating that site. If all else fails I suppose I could pop a hand full of Excedrin and try .... again.

I do now have a 538 manual. Thanks grannysewer I really appreciate it.
