Default Singer Treadle Base

I just bought a Singer treadle base. I used to ride the pedal of a treadle when I was little. This one rocks back and forth nicely and is so nostalgic.

I wonder what to clean it with... WD40?... Sewing machine oil?... Something else?

If it's rusted, try isopropyl alcohol (97-99%) or Evaporust. If greasy, try alcohol or just hot water and grease-cutting dish soap. Dry well afterward!

I love that table, so sleek and clean. I also remember rocking on my Grandmothers treadle when I was wee lass
Nice memories.

I have seen died grease, thread wrpped and rust and I don't have a ton of experience with them. I use bike chain lube on the rust but if no rust tri flo worked fine.

ditto - I was amazed at what a difference it make just wiping it down with sewing machine oil and cotton balls.

I think most of the old treadle manuals (like for the 66, 27 & 15) will tell where to oil the treadle to keep it moving smoothly. I don't remember if there are oil holes, but I think so and if so make sure they are cleaned out so that the oil gets to where it is supposed to go.

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.
