Default singer treadle question

I'm finding searching for the answers myself has led me into too much temptation so I figure someone where would know the answer

will a singer 15 treadle-able machine (one is a 15-30 and not sure the the other model but it's black with a bird decal in the center..)fit in a treadle cabinet that currently holds a singer 27 sphinx? would 66 redeye work?

I think I have sewing machine adhd - can't seem to focus on a single machine but keep hopping around! anyways...I've finally gotten my house organized so I can get to the herd! I have 2 treadles from back when I first got the bug (probably 10-12 yrs ago) one is a singer 27 in a treadle cabinet (treadle needs a belt, etc but otherwise should work ok. 27 sphinx doesn't have nice decals but was working last time I used it and can use again once I find where I put the replacement plate I got after somehow losing the original..sigh..) but the other day I was browsing a local shop and just *love* this pretty little 15 that's in a treadle. price wasn't bargain-y as it had been refinished because it was in awful shape when it arrived. so i walked away for the time being since I really dont have a lot of space available for future cabinets/treadles and I would like a couple more nice treadles(like one with beautiful floral decals and a lotus) but I keep thinking about it. I also noticed no reverse and just a knob for stitch lenghth which I'm not sure how I'd adjust to (though I have an electric 66 redeye I started playing around with so may get used to it...)plus treadles probably don't reverse right? just turn the fabric around to backstitch? anways I looked on ebay thinking possibly I could find the same one I saw but without the cabinet and switch them out- instead I found a pretty gingerbread 15 but it's sold without the treadle. now I probably wouldn't bid enough to win the auction but it's one I might bid more on because I do like the looks. I also saw a white family I think it's called that looked nice but haven't done any searching locally for one or even on ebay yet.

mainly I wanna know which ones can interchange into the same cabinets- I don't think the white treadles fit in the singers- that's what someone told me the other day when I was liking a machine head-that white fits into their own cabinets but later the electrical machines would interchange with the singers in singer cabinets.

I think I've run into the same problem as everyone else- need more space for everything I want! but crap I kinda see myself with the both 15s I'm admiring AND a White someday..sigh.. oh the other treadle I have is a new home that I fell in love with- this lady had it for sale so a friend went back with me (about a 3 1/2 - 4 hour trip!) and I bought it and was having trouble using it and she had 2 singers she was willing to sell as she had a LOT so i got this one since I was able to treadle it easier than the new home and at the time didn't have a big herd just a few! the new home has meh decals as well but i sill loved it. one of these days may replace it but for now I think I'll get another belt (yep this one broke too!) and just learn to use it and see how I enjoy it.

well was looking on a blog and something there indicates that the 127, 66, and 15 fit in the same cabinet..the 27 is bigger right? sigh...on the other hand I guess if I got that 15 then I'd have a wide range of options as to which head to put in huh?!

All those machines will fit in most Singer cabinets. However, there is a cabinet originally intended for the 27/127 that the others will not fit in. So the answer is ... maybe.

I wonder what would make it fit the 27 but not the others. I understand for the VS models but not the 27. I know there was a treadle cabinet number 10 that was for the chain stitch 24-50 as seen at http://www.sil.si.edu/DigitalCollect...es/image18.htm I think there is another place on that site that shows the early 1900s cabinets and the models that they were originally suitable for, but I can't find it.

hmmm I know this one had the 27 in it when I bought it. the blog I was looking at had a copy of a treadle cabinet ad and it listed 15 66 and 127 seems like so that's why I thougth a 27 was a different size. dunno...working on getting ready for round robin right now and need to put thoughts of more for the herd aside LOL but I like to at least 'plan' a bit and I'd rather not have a bunch of treadles around unless they're really pretty - and the 2 cabinets I have aren't pristine perfect by any means- pretty enough and functional I'd say esp since the veneer chipped off the front of the singer and I messed up the new home by bumping that front piece with my knee. need to try gluing it back in place.

You can run into problem where the brace supports inside need to be modified so the machine will lower all the way. These are blocks glued to the inside of the cabinet that the machine rests on when lowered. Since the machines have different outlines, sometimes they hit in the wrong spot. I've had a few identical cabinets, and the location of those blocks was the only difference.

As to having a treadle that will go in reverse - you only need to find a machine that is treadle-able that has those features. I've got a 401G and a Necchi Supernova that can both be put in treadle cabinets - and they are machines with lots of neat stitches and functions.

I do like to treadle!!! I now have nine treadles in my house!!!!

I really can’t add much that the others haven’t said about swapping machine heads in cabinets. I’ve run into problems with heads not folding down in some cabinets, but I don’t have any particulars on which cabinets and which heads, or even if they were treadle or electric cabinets. I’ve only got one fold-down treadle cabinet in the bunch, and it’s a White SM Co unit instead of Singer. The coffin-top treadle that my Singer 27K2 is in has a really shallow drip pan in it that might not accommodate some machines, but I haven’t ever tried putting any other head in that treadle cabinet.

You may just have to experiment to find out about yours.

I would go ahead & buy it...if you're a true collector, if it doesn't fit, you'll find another that does at some point. The machine heads don't take up nearly as much space as the cabinets do...they look pretty nice just sitting on a shelf

I am going away from the Whites, as they don't fit a Singer cabinet very well from my experience. I have a nice White 77, magnesium, and a pretty cabinet that nobody seems to want. They all go for the Singers and everyone wants my Red Eye. People seem to want "cheap" machines that straight stitch well and forever.??? They don't intend to give them any care either. There is a big demand from the quilting guild for the 15s to do free motion work and 201s for power and longevity. I like both equally well for various reasons. Good luck. Take careful measurements of the cabinets and take them with you when shopping.
