Question Paint Removal

I mentioned in my first post about my new FW that there is some paint on the bed of the machine. It looks like someone was using a paint spray gun and the machine got hit by overspray.
I have been trying to get it off. Someone suggested putting some Sewing machine oil on the paint and letting it soak--didn't do anything. I tried using the motor lubricant--really didn't seem to do anything. After I had let the grease soak for awhile, I tried using the side of a credit card to 'scratch' the paint off. I seem to remember hearing that was a good idea somewhere. I have been able to get the lumpy stuff to go away, but there are still little ghostly shadows left. Oh, and it is all over the foot control. I think it was sitting on the bed extension, it protected the bed but took a beating

The finish on the machine is really in very nice condition, shiny with good decals. I would hate to damage it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to better remove the paint? .

I thought about trying one of those, but I was afraid it might damage the shiny finish. You don't think it will dull the finish?
