Default New Home AB - Minnie = SPI question

Well, the former mouse apartment is fully functional now. Yesterday I got my order from Sew-Classic and finished off the mechanicals.
I installed a light, and a new cord block. About all that I have to do is repair and refinish the case, and eventually repaint the machine. This one really needs it.

So, to the topic. I asked my wife to sew with it so I could do a video, ( not done yet ) she said OK. Since my wife prefers to use 10 stitches to the inch I decided to check the machine to see if the stitch length control is accurate.
It isn't.
Check out the scan down at the bottom. You can see how the setting number, at the top, and the actual SPI, at the bottom, don't match and once past setting 16 the stitches are so close that it's almost impossible to count them.
Knob setting 22 and 32 actually cut the paper because the stitches were so close.

My question is for anyone who has a New Home AB or similar: does your stitch control match the stitches?

I've got two New Home shuttle models similar to your AB. "Greyhound Racing" was right on and "New Companion" was about 20 % off. You gonna cover up the stamped numbers with duct tape, the accurate numbers on the tape?

Alabama Chrome???
Some times those old stitch regulators get gunked up inside and need a good cleaning - just a thought.

Jon,
No, I'll just keep the little stitch chart with the machine. Eventually I'd like to find a new plate for it. This one is pretty badly rusted. Mouse pee is very corrosive I've been told. That explains the rust damage.

Miriam,
I've scrubbed and cleaned the underside of this machine as good as I can. Also checked and could not find any way to adjust the parts to make them line up closer. Seems that there isn't any parts to adjust. I could have missed something though.

It sews good. I set the stitch length at just over 8 and my wife said the stitches were what she wanted.
