I have been reading this message board for awhile and I really love it and have learned a lot. I need help now. I bought a Singer 503A from my neighbor for $5. My mother traded her treadle machine in 1962 to buy a 503 for us. She had it until the house fire 15 years ago. The neighbors' 503A seems to be in good condition, except it does not have any of the cams. I have cams from my Singer Golden Touch & Sew. Will these cams fit on the 503A? I bought my Singer Golden in 1969 and have the attachments from that and also assorted cams I have picked up at auctions and yard sales. If I have to have special cams to fit the 503, where do I find them? By doing some research on the internet, I have found out the 503 is called the Rocketeer. She used that machine for 35 years and never knew it was considered such a workhorse. I would like to make the neighbors' machine a great replacement for the one she lost. The Singer she bought to replace the one lost in the fire was a Wal Mart machine without the bells and whistles of the 503, but it works pretty good most of the time. Hope some of you great board members can be of help.

Here are some websites that might help:

I don't think the cams are the same, perhaps because the 503 is a slant-shank machine.

I am not sure how to post a question on the Vintage Machine site. I barely figured out how to get my original question on this site. I will have to go back to the information I printed out on how to use the board. I use a computer at work, but this message board is a bit confusing for me to figure out.

The 400. 500 an 600 series cams are the same as I understand it. I just bought a big assortment of cams on ebay and they should arrive in a couple of days. I have the original 5 for the 503 and am looking to fill in the other 20. Ill let you know when they get here if they are the same.

I dont think the ones from the Touch and Sew are the same, but they are in this assortment too. So, I can check it all out when they arrive. If they are the same, I can probably hook you up with some of the duplicates.

The 300 series cams are deffinately different. They are flat, not the top hat kind the later series take.

Hang tight, it should just be a couple of days.

The Touch and Sew is a slant shank machine, too...I think that they are the same cams. Try to insert one and see if it works...just don't force it... :-D

Dont feel like the Lone Ranger I am looking for the Cams for my 500A. I am not sure which cams fits what but I do have one of them in the machine to use for a model.

OK, I got the big box of cams...Here is what I found

The top hat cams for the 500A and 603 and Touch and Sew 640 all use the same cams.... All the part numbers are identical!

The set for the Touch and Sew, even though the part numbers are the same, have a slightly different ring around the top hat. I will put one in my 500A and see if it works.. I am pretty sure it will as that is not the working part of the cam. The depth is identical, part number is identical and the shape and cut of the cam is identical.

I dont have an original set of the 400 series cams, but per the blog that was posted in a previous post on this thread, they are the same as the 500 series.

So, they are all interchangable between the 400, 500 and 600 series machines.

The 300 series cams are NOT interchangable as they are flat, with no top hat. I am looking for those as well for my 306.
