Tammi after seeing the pic I think the black is painted. If it was stain the wood would be dark where it has chipped. You can just touch it up with black paint or sand lightly and paint the trim black. I would do what ever is best for you. No harm either way.

Check. Thanks Glenn! I will think about how much I want to interfere with the table and pick my method based on that. If painting, it won't likely be this year now. I want to do that outdoors and I don't want o do anything outdoors right now! If I do paint, just anything after I scuff it up? Or should I look for something in particular?

I would match the black as best you can and I would use an old based paint in semi-gloss. You can tape it off and spray or brush. Spray paint is the easiest and will not show brush marks.

Oil paint is more durable than latex and easy to repair in the future. Yes it is cold here to in the 20's

Perfect! I'll put it on my To Do list for next time I'm in the city. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it once. That's not what the pens will do, so I've decided I'm painting.

I haven't looked at the temps outside but I know we're under a heavy snow fall warning for just south of us. 4 - 8" is what they're predicting. Yuck. DH has to drive in it, I don't. At least he's got the 4x4 with him. I love working from home!
