Hi, I'm a newbie to this site, and was pointed here by a friend (who reads the threads but hasn't actually registered!).

I have just inherited a Singer treadle; it's been in garage for the last 30 years, but is in pretty good nick, with only surface rust and a broken belt. My daughter wants to restore it and use it, and I would like to get her some of the extra bits which I think probably came with it originally.

It is serial number ED039248, which I think makes it a 15K, made in 1941? We have looked for accessories and have found things on ebay, but they say Simanco. Do you know if they're compatible? There's one spare needle with it, but I suspect at least one more would useful, just in case. My daughter is 13 and has only hand-sewn so far. I'm guessing that she'd be better starting on a Singer like this, rather than some new electric which does everything including making the tea!

The machine takes a 15x1 standard needle you can get anywhere. Simanco is the singer parts so you shoule not have any problem with them. Just make sure they are low shank attachments. Your daughter will love the machine.

simanco stands for SInger MANufacturing COmpany. So yep, that is exactly what you are looking for!

I'm sure others with more knowledge than myself will chime in shortly to answer your other questions.

Yep, Singer Model 15K, 1 of 75,000 allotted 4-4-41.

Low shank feet and attachments
Class 15 x 1 needles
Class 15 metal bobbins

Good machine for just about anything.

Use sewing machine oil and cotton balls or soft flannel cloth to clean it with.
Suggest Tri-Flow oil if you can get it where you're at, it's better than normal sewing machine oil. At any rate, since it's been setting for so long, clean it good inside and out ( under the needle plate, slide plate, inspection cover, under the bottom and oil oil oil it.
Clean and oil the treadle contact points and bearing too.

When putting on a new belt pre-stretch it if you can, ( I can't ) or put it on a bit tight, it will stretch.

Strongly suggest putting in a good supply of needles, they wear out, can be bent or broken, and are cheap.
Bobbins too.

sew-classic is a great place to get the bobbins and Tri-Flow oil, and probably other things you might need. Good luck!
