Cool Treadle machine

I have an old treadle machine and would like to know if I need special sewing needles. I am using a universal needle and it does not pick up the bobbin thread. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to tell us what machine you have. "Universal" is a tip type, not a needle size. It's meant to be used on a wide variety of fabric, not a wide variety of machines.

Yes, we need to know which machine and model#. A picture would be a big help too. Not every model within a brand uses the same needle.

Hey, Fran C,
I am from Indiana, too, a bit of a ways north of Kokomo. I will have to honk next time I go through on way to Indy.

I, too, have a treadle machine...unfortunately haven't had a chance to play with her much...the spot I want to locate her is already full. I do know that Singer needles came with her. The machine is a Montgomery Ward Damascus Grand.

"Damascus Grand" is a National made Rotary machine, and it does take the same size needle as the Singer. the "Damascus" (not grand) I've seen have all been VS machines, and the National VS machines I've encountered take a longer needle.
