Default Two things ............

One:
I just got my Sew-Classic order today. I put it in last Friday. Wow! I ordered some Class 66 metal bobbins. They are beautiful. They look to be one piece, not the 3 piece ones normally found. Very smooth plating.
I haven't used any yet, but if they work as good as they look I'm going to order some more.

Two:
Does your machine buzz, hum, groan and struggle to go?
Does it do all that then suddenly take off like a scared rabbit?
Do you have one of those universal black rubber band belts on it?

Then take it off and put a real sewing machine belt on.

I have had several machines do this to me. And each ran so much better with a proper belt on it I wondered if it was the same machine. The last was my silver SEWMOR 404. I didn't have the proper belt for it until my order got here today and when the new belt went on, oh what a difference.

The universal, black rubber belts are tough on the motor and will eventually do it harm.

Thanks for the good report on Sew-Classic. I plan to put in an order soon.

Thanks also for the heads up about the black belt. Now I'm on the hunt.........

Right you are Candace.

The black rubber band belts are OK for temporary use if your real belt breaks or dies on the weekend and you need to keep sewing till you can replace it Monday.

The sad thing is my ALDENS Magic ZZ machine has a stationary motor with zero adjustments. At first I thought it was a home made replacement, but when I studied the pictures in the owners manual the motor is original. And the pics show a rubber band belt. Guess what, it hums and buzzes and struggles to go. With no adjustments I'm pretty much stuck with the rubber band belt. Yuck.

Joe,

What do you mean by a proper belt? I ordered two kinds of belts from SewClassic. One was a round black rubber and the other was an orange plastic piece of doodoo. The black ones work so well on all of my machines, but the orange plastic one fell apart, actually into little pieces. It was the corrigated kind. It was as though it was brittle. Probably should have contacted them about it but it didn't cost too much. Have you used that kind of belt?

I love the bobbins she gets! Yes she is very quick. AND I need to order some more bobbins. I wait until I order enough to get the free shipping.... I'm sure if you told Jenny you had a bad belt she would want to know about it.

Kitsy,

The amber / orange / pink cogged belts run the gamut in quality. From horridly cheep to good. Sew-Classic sold me two early last year that did as yours did, fell apart. They were past the warranty time so I just ordered the black belts, not the round rubber band but the real black belt. Those work very good.
After that she has put in a line of better quality Japanese made cogged belts. I haven't bought any yet but eventually I will.

Many companies could take lessons from her. Order on Friday afternoon, get the order on Monday morning, excellent service.
I don't always make large orders to get the free shipping but it sure is nice when I can.

As for those bobbins, I'm gonna fill one today and do a test run. I'm finally piecing my "all machines denim quilt". Only been working on it since last April.
