Yours is made by Brother - good machine - I send a yellow one like it to a lady on QB and she loves it - that one turned very fast and freely. It is built like a Japanese 15 clone but the tension is on the front. Feed dogs drop if you want to do free motion. It is straight stitch only. You got an excellent price on it. I love the color of it. The nose door swings open for cleaning, oiling and changing the light bulb. It is similar to a Singer 293 but the Singer threads from right to left - yours threads left to right. The Singer 293 bobbin case is made different but it works the same. I think you are going to really love that machine. If you like you can clean it and oil it or you can send it out to be serviced.

Second of my estate sale find for $15. The brand in Imperial Zig Zag model HSZ-7. Manual I. Original plastic bag was included. No date in it. Looking through the manual it can do some nice patterns. It is very dirty and very smelly case. Hopefully it will clean up well and work!

Wow look at those colors! Is it a wooden case? You might need to get some baking soda or odor eaters or deodorant soap to absorb odors - or you can scrub it out with borax and leave it in the sun to kill the mold - it could be a glue smell from the wood glue.

NLQuilter, I have a relative of your machine. Pink Brother straight stitch that I have named Verdeen. I like this one because it has the art deco Brother on it that matched the lines of the sewing machine, instead of that scrolly Atlas plate that most of the the pink machines got. Still has not been cleaned. Still needs a belt. Someday, lol.

Note that it also has the attachments box as well as the original pink and gray case. (You can see the lid of the case off to the left.)

I bought it one in Greenville, PA a couple of years ago. I think I paid $20 for it and $30 for a Montgomery Ward free-arm machine that did many stitches. I have a lot of machines, so I ended up giving that Montgomery Ward to a nursing school so that student nurses and x-ray tech students would have a way to mend their scrubs and sew the school's logo patch onto shirts and jackets, lol.

I also have a baby blue Monkey Ward's flatbed machine. It does all kinds of decorative stitches and came with a hoop and instructions for free motion embroidery. I think it has a flat spot in the motor, though. I tried stitching with it a little but the motor has some kind of problem. It's not the belt. It's like something slips in the motor itself. I'll fix it some day. No time right now. I'll try to get a few pics, though. It's a nice-running machine, except for the motor issue.

I have a pink Atlas with the same decals as your pink Brother. Mine is very heavy. I've seen one very much the same but light weight. Go figure.

Verdeen is definitely heav-vy. LOL! Runs smooth as silk, though. She's a keeper. Did you notice that the decal on the bed is Atlas? The pics are bad, but the only ones I have.

My blue one is really heavy too. I got it cleaned and oiled. Plugged it in tonight. The motor runs but I did notice a little spark inside the motor. Not sure what wood cause that. Maybe it's been sitting for a while. Anything you could suggest for that?

Is there something besides borax I can use? I am in Canada and cannot find it in the stores.

My grand son Wilbur loves the little Atlas decals - he put his finger on the ones in the corners then he pointed to the one in the middle. He said 'He's got the whole world in his hands." At least now I know what company made that Atlas.
