It might have had the bobbin case already altered or there is another case that will work on the machine (an industrial I think) that will allow you to run the 15x1's.

I called the Husqvarna/White 800 number and it is a 2X model and manufactured in 1936 in Cleveland. You convinced me - I'll try and pick it up tonight if it is still there. I can't imagine why it would be so cheap, except that maybe the motor is shot. It is in beautiful shape cosmetically.

I would be picking up that machine after work tomorrow, cleaning it in the evening (at my kitchen table if it is too cold outside in the garage) and this weekend just to get it cleaned up to use. I agree with Vintagemotif, she told me about my new featherweight and Davis and I had them both within a day! I'd already have that Davis at home! And, he is already is the ball park on price, I wouldn't haggle too much!

I e-mailed him to set up a time on Saturday to pick it up! Also, discussed this with DH and while not thrilled, didn't argue other than to say "can you haggle the price with him?" I told him I already had! LOL!!

We made a date for Saturday at 1 PM! I'm pumped! Can't wait!

You should be! I don't see too many of these machines listed, lots of Singer's FWs, 15s, and 66s, but not this Davis. So, tell your DH that he is making a great investment. I purchased my Two Spools for $30 and a month later saw one sold on ebay for around $650. Just tell him, it can be sold later for more than you paid for it. Looking forward to photos!

Well we went and picked up our two new orphans today. One is a 1919 Red Eye and the other is a Davis Vertical Feed. I have a number that is on the bobbin plate of the VF which is 1088859, and the last date listed on the bobbin plate is May 12,1886. Don't know how to date the machine Nancy do you have any idea how to look it up. Both machines took right off sewing. The belt is broke on the VD but I tried it out just turning the wheel by hand. They are really dirty but I think will clean up nicely.

I will, I am thinking of just doing a dustbunny cleanup and adding a new belt ~ get her running, do a quick lapquilt with DD (she is already raiding the stash, she's so excited)... then when the weather warms in spring, we can move it to the porch for complete teardown... that way we may get her up and running for a little while :) worth a try!

I am drooling looking at you model 27 in the treadle cabinet. I have a model 27 machine but no cabinet. Having waited this long I am now giving her up . Going out in trash tomorrow. It's killing me but she has to go. So SAD.
